| 13U Miami Curve (FL) Travel Ball Select's Honorable Mention | | |
The Miami Curve, hit the radar in 2008 by breaking the norm of most (not all) South Florida teams of the past by traveling away from their region to play against some of the nations top 12U teams. In doing so they turned a lot of heads by competing very well against other top teams.
This 13U Curve team plays year round and are currently playing in the very competitive MYBA league along with other currently ranked TBS teams, including the #7 ranked Miami Ballers (former Team Miami), the #23 ranked Broward Red Dogs, the Honorable Mention SF Extreme and the Honorable Mention SF Tsunami. "By playing in this very competitive league, the Miami Curve should be getting better every game, win or lose". TBS notes: This is one of the most competitive leagues in the country that a 13U team could play in.
The Curve will play in six holiday tournaments before January with plans to play in the Atlanta NIT, Battle in the South in TN and Babe Ruth All Star games in the summer with a goal of making it to the Babe Ruth World Series.
The majority of the players on the Curve have played together on this team since they were 9 years old. The Miami Curve has stayed together longer than any other team in this age group in the South Florida area. Over the years they have grown together as players and have created lifetime friendships.
The Miami Curve is managed by Don Blair and coached by Miguel Cabezas and Mandy Canino. The team is led by power hitters, Michael Cabezas (outfield/catcher), Bryan Carerras (catcher) and outfielder/pitcher Alex Perez. The infield is nearly mistake free and is glued together by Jack Diaz (third base), Nick Canino (SS), Justin Blair (2B), Tito Torres and Gabriel Marin (1B). Centerfielder, Alex Perez anchors the outfield and is one of the best outfielders in this age group, other outfielders Julian Infante and Franky Smith fill out the other outfield positions.
The pitching Staff is led by Alex Perez, Gabriel Marin, Tito Torres and Luis Barronco. The Curve will be adding a few new players that will enhance the pitching staff for 2009. The coaching philosophy of the Miami Curves is to prepare each player for high school baseball. The goals are for each Curve player to have the opportunity to make there high school team early on in their high school years.
All practices are conducted at an excelled pace to develop instincts and knowledge of the game. Each player is challenged week after week to improve their skills. This type of training will help payoff for the Curve and help them challenge at the highest competitive level. Travel Ball Select will keep an eye on the curve as the 2009 season unfolds. | Link to the original report on travelballselect.com
